Layer by Layer: My Process Behind Abstract Paintings

Creating abstract paintings is like composing a visual symphony — one mark leads to another, and every layer influences the next. I often start with a color or shape that resonates with me emotionally, letting intuition guide my early gestures. These first steps are loose and experimental, laying the foundation for what the painting will become.

As I build layers, I alternate between control and freedom. I may scrape back paint to reveal what’s underneath, or completely cover areas that no longer serve the piece. Texture, contrast, and balance are my constant companions. The painting evolves slowly, often living in an unfinished state for days or weeks while I consider the next move.

What I love most is that each painting tells a story without needing words. It invites the viewer to interpret, to feel, and to connect with something abstract yet deeply human. My goal is not to explain, but to evoke.
